Instrumental Tuition for School Settings

There are many ways a child might learn an instrument in School, as an experienced tutor holding the Trinity Certificate for Music Educators, this is something I am able to help with.

Some ways you may wish to bring instrumental learning into your school are :

Peripatetic Lessons

I am able to offer individual and small group lessons within your school setting. I offer clarinet, saxophone and flute lessons and am able to support children working towards exams or school performances.

First Access Courses

As part of the National Plan for Music Education, funding is   available for Schools to be able to offer 10 weeks of instrument lessons on a whole class basis. These programmes aim to offer a glimpse into instrumental playing, and usually take place in KS2. I am able to deliver a fun and informative 10 week course, which  gives the children a chance to be 'real' musicians and learn how to look after their instruments and practice, as well as showing clear progression over a relatively short period of time. I usually like to finish 10 week courses with a performance, where the   children can showcase their new skills, along with wider benefits such as developing confidence, resilience, and team work skills.

Continuation / Whole Year Projects

Some Schools decide to provide whole class instrumental    learning throughout the school year, usually starting as a grant-funded First Access project and then progressing as an activity paid for by the School. I have experience of teaching whole classes over long periods of time, some across multiple academic years. It can sometimes be tricky to sustain interest for all children once the initial novelty of playing an instrument wears off, however as an always-enthusiastic musician and  educator, I work with the children to keep their learning moving, for example giving a choice of music which has both a relevance for them, and the learning outcomes I have planned for.

First Access Funding

Due to a change in the way music provision works in Wirral and Cheshire West, Schools are now able to apply directly to the Lead Hub (Love Music Trust) for the grant funding available to run 10 week First Access instrumental courses. Schools are then able to engage a music tutor to provide this service.

I have taught First Access courses in both woodwind and ukulele, and am able to provide an effective 10 week instrumental course which not only fosters the children's love of music, but also shows clear progression. Usually the last week of the course is a performance, where the children are able to showcase their new skills and share their music with other students in the school or parents/guardians.

Peripatetic Lessons

As a self-employed peripatetic tutor, all billing and invoicing will be dealt with directly between myself and the parents, removing the need for school administrators to add another thing to their to-do list. I am able to provide a copy of my T&Cs and charging structure to the school on request, so that you can ensure I am operating in-line with school values.

Many schools choose to support children receiving Free School Meals with their instrumental learning, and I would be happy to discuss this further with you.

Essential Information

I hold an enhanced DBS certificate, and have both Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance. I have    completed the NSPCC CPD-accredited safeguarding training and hold a current Emergency First Aid at Work certificate.

All documents can be provided on request, along with references. I am also happy to complete any additional safeguarding training your setting requires.
